The Community SEO staff have been in the web design and search engine optimization for over 4 years, performing mostly consultation and website optimization work. Only recently have we decided to venture off into creating stock addons for popular existing web software systems (for example forum, CMS, and blog website packages).

We were researching forum software and corresponding SEO traits of each software package and noticed that almost all stock forum installations available have no sort of basic search engine optimization features. Friendly URL settings and configurable meta tags, for example, cannot generally be configured within most basic forum packages we looked into.

As a direct result, we decided to venture into creating the first SEO package for our favorite forum system, Invision Power Board. While Invision Board is a great forum package out of the box, it does not contain any sort of stock SEO features, and the very few SEO or Friendly URL modifications we found available all operated rather poorly, and inconsistently. Some of the modifications tested can even hurt your search engine rankings more than they help, by generating multiple page links that point to the same page, resulting in duplicate content penalties by most major search engines.
